The browser tried to download eicar.com when I started it this morning. Haven't found anything why it should do that. eicar.org is not in history for a month.

Downloaded eicar.com several times to test my UTM devices. Only done that from my lab, never from my workstation. When restarted the PC this morning and started FF it tried to downlad the file. File was the following: https://secure.eicar.org/eicar.com

Wonder how it could happen.

That is odd. Have you tried a Malware check? Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Rosszindulatú programok által okozott problémák hibakeresése article.

Odd indeed. It was a one-time issue after a Windows update reboot. Using FortiClient and since it's a working PC, I'm keeping it extremely clean. Downloading nothing but configuration files and debug outputs. All others like penetration files, worms, exploit hacks and even python codes are running on my test network. From there there is no connection to my working network. Multiple firewalls, VLANs and so on keeping the other part separate. Due to my security settings I can't even download a single infected code (0-day security chain). eicar was blocked just got a reminder for that. Still odd. We can drop the question. If noone else had this issue then I'm guessing there was a mistake in my network or system. However no harm was done, just curious why and how this could have happened. Thanks for the answer by the way.

I am sure you may not be the only one experiencing it. However after some more research about the product it looks like it is used as an ani-virus with McAffee https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB59742 however I am not aware how their updates or software manages the interaction.

The other thing I found is that your Flash plugin is a little out of date, there were some security risks with this version: Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900n however I am not sure if you were also experiencing crashes. http://helpx.adobe.com/security/produ.../apsb13-28.html

Forgive the tangent, I please do post back if it happens again.
