I am running latest version of Firefox on Mac OS X Yosemite as well on Windows 7. I am in total love with Mozilla Mac edition, pages load faster, scrolling up/down is damn good.

But where as I keep seeing Firefox keeps hanging and slow opening of heavy news websites. The specs of Windows 7 laptop is way higher than my Mac book pro. Same website loads faster on Chrome and no problem what so ever on Chrome. But Windows 7 and Firefox never seems to have worked at all. Always keeps hanging and Javascript execution eats up CPU and hangs all open tabs.

Hardware specs for Windows 7 Intel Core i7,16GB Ram, 500 GB SSD

Hardware Specs for OS X Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM,250 GB SSD

Hello,

Are you using the latest version of Firefox (version 33)? If not, try updating Firefox in Windows by going to:

  • Help (or New Fx Menu > Help-29) > About Firefox

Or downloading and installing a fresh copy from:

Try updating your graphics drivers, see this article for more details:

If your drivers are up to date and you are still experiencing issues, try disabling graphics hardware acceleration to see if that causes Firefox to run more smoothly on Windows. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

Then perform these steps:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options.
  2. In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the Advanced tab, then select General.
  3. In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  4. Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

If you are experiencing these issues in version 33 and disabling hardware acceleration appears to fix it, please fill out the following survey:

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.
