transferring several entire email folders to a different email account

I would like to move almost all of my email folders from one particular account (one Thunderbird) to another account (also on Thunderbird).

So far, I have been dragging individual folders from the original account to the other account, but this is a fairly slow process - it would be great to be able to select all of the folders to be moved at one time.

Also, it seems that I am ending up copying folders rather than moving them. Is there a way to move rather than copy?

Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

What happens if you select the folders while holding the Ctrl key, then select Message/Move To and choose the destination folder?

Dear sfhowes,

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I am in fact able to select all the folders, by holding the Ctrl key and then clicking on each of the folders. However, at that point, I do not see any option "Message/Move To". If I open the Message menu, the option of "move" is grayed out. I also tried simply dragging all of the folders to the other account, but nothing happened.

Best, Mike

For reasons I can't explain, selecting some folders offers the option to move them from Message/Move To, while for other folders, it's greyed out, as you found. It works for one IMAP account, but not another.

So, until the reasons become apparent, you will probably have to move one folder at a time by selecting all the messages in the source folder (Ctrl-A) and then Message/Move To and select the target folder.

Thanks for your reply, sfhowes.
