Regret upgrading Firefox ... lost prevention of auto-play issues

I am an XP user and I don't even know what new version of FireFox this is, since putting an About type option in the rightmost menu drop-down is too typical, and developers certainly can't do anything typical ... such normalcy might be considered user friendly, and easily allow me to know what version of FireFox this is.

Anyway, I largely had control of stopping annoying auto-play ads and at the same time being able to see content, before regrettably updating FireFox versions. I've just learned, at least in part, how to stop auto-plays in this new FireFox version, but the blacked-out ad space is permanently blocking my view of the news articles I would like to read. This was not the case prior to "upgrading" to a "better" FireFox.

Tired of this developer nonsense. Sorry if anyone takes offense, but it is complete nonsense with no visible improvements ... updates just come down to settings research anymore.

I'm actually posting here in Chrome (SRWare Iron), in the event that any browser information is automatically showing.

On this XP pc, I've gone to FireFox to Chrome to FireFox in recent years.

Given the current FireFox issue of blocking nytimes and reuters news content with unmovable and un-close-able black/gray Flash windows, it looks like I'll be migrating back to Chrome, which allows me to get these windows out of my way.

Either that, or I'll try to "downgrade" to the previous better version of FireFox.

Help > About Firefox to read your version number. Or use Help > Troubleshooting Information to see it.

Thank you.

I hide the menu bar and wrongly assumed the drop-down menu on the right would cover the same functions.

It's 34.0.5 if of interest to anyone with regard to the unmovable black/gray Flash ad spaces.

That is the latest.

Adblock Plus {web link} Blocks annoying video ads on YouTube, Facebook ads, banners and much more. Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).

Thanks.

I'll consider it, but I've had considerable trouble with add-ons with the debacle known as Windows 8. Would prefer not to toy with them again on this XP machine, and would hope that this new Firefox could perform as well as previous versions.
