how do you copy and file old emails by year date?

I have a load of old emails in my inbox/sent folders which I would like to keep on file. Is there an easy way to copy all mail dated 2012 and drop them in a separate file ..

There is an add-on to TB which allows import and export of emails in various formats to a separate storage medium (external disk, thumb drive, etc.).

One of it's many options is to search and export by various criteria. You can select a date range as one of those options.
