I am running the newest firefox (38.0.5) for windows on windows 7 ultimate and have used adobe's flash removal tool and reinstalled flash player to version 18.0.0.160. Flash player crashes almost non stop on hulu using firefox, and frequently everywhere else. It does not generate any crash reports, I have checked about:crashes. It seems to work fine in internet explorer. Currently having to use google chrome for hulu which supposedly has its own built in flash player according to hulu support. Whether or not it has it's own flash, chrome works just fine, firefox does not often work or for long when it does work on hulu and fails frequently elsewhere using firefox.

I don't consider turning off the security feature a good solution. The instructions for doing so, show a previous version, which was working just fine.

This seems to be a problem with either the most recent firefox or the most recent adobe flash player, or a combination of the 2. I just looked at my other computer that only had firefox updated, not flash and it crashes too. So this is a problem that was introduced with version 38.0.5. The flash version on that computer is still 17.0.0.188 and it was working fine for hulu prior to updating firefox to 38.0.5.

I maintain computer for several friends, I have not yet been able to update their computers and have not gotten calls saying "I/We cannot watch anything please come fix it." so it has to be the 38.0.5 update that is the culprit.

Are you getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog, or the Windows crash dialog, or just the message in a gray box where the video should be?

If you don't get either dialog, is it possible you have crash reporting disabled? You could check here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Data Choices mini-tab

If that is enabled but Flash crashes do not trigger it, could you check here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste plug and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the dom.ipc.plugins.flash.subprocess.crashreporter.enabled preference is bolded and "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true

Hopefully then you can generate some data that will lead to more specific suggestions for your system.

This is not a cure, but it will help,

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it
