How can I import my passwords from CSV file

more options

I have exported my Chrome passwords to a CSV file ( a couple of different ways) and have a perfectly good CSV file in which I can see my passwords (site, username, password) but I can't find a way to import them into Firefox. I install password exporter but it can't load the file(s). No matter what I call the fields in the CSV file, I just can't import.

I really want to go back to using Firefox but I need to import my passwords.

Does anyone have any suggestions... either an alternative to the Password Exporter add on, or advice on how to format the CSV file so I can be imported.

I visited the password exporter site and there is not much help there.

It's better to use the HTML file type.

To open the Bookmarks Manager, press the Alt or F10 key bring up the tool bar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control>(Mac:<Command>) <Shift> B.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Export Bookmarks To HTML, and follow the prompts and save it to a HTML file. Copy the file to another computer. Repeat the instructions above, BUT select Import Bookmarks From HTML,

It is actually my passwords rather than my bookmarks that I am trying to import from a CSV file.

Thanks for your input - I learnt a couple of new things - but my problem remains.

See if this extension works for you with those Chrome generate CSV files. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/password-exporter/

I never used Chrome enough to have saved any user data like passwords that I needed the export back to Firefox when I decided it wasn't for me.

Read the User Reviews before trying it, there are user tips that might help you bypass incompatibility issues by editing the CSV file before trying to import it. That add-on wasn't made specifically for importing Chrome passwords into Firefox, so the file might need to be edited.

Password exporter is the add on that I have been using to TRY to import my passwords from a CSV file.

I have renamed the fields in accordance with the help page but still the file won't import.

Surely there is s simple way to import a CSV file with site, username, password... into Firefox.

Sorry - your System Details for your initial posting didn't show any installed extensions.

I find it strange that the built-in "Import Data from Another Browser" doesn't cover Chrome password data - aka "Import Wizard and Migration Assistant". Found an open Bug report about "login data from Chrome on WIndows" - currently unassigned. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=707044 Which is related to this open Bug report. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454008 You can vote for those Bugs, but please don't add any extraneous comments (anyone following that Bug would get an email, which IMO slows down the entire Bug-fix process and pisses people off). https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html

Via a Google search I found this: http://stevedowe.me/2013/10/how-to-migrate-your-passwords-from-chrome-to-firefox.html which was Last updated by Steve at October 30, 2014 - so that information might work for Firefox 39.

There my be other usable articles in this Google search as I didn't look beyond the first page.
