When I log into various websites (my work e-mail, Pinterest, gmail, etc.), if I switch from that tab to a different tab (perhaps I've clicked on a link to look at something), when I go back to the original tab Firefox has logged me out and I have to log in again.

Firefox will not log you out of anything unless you click the log-out link.

Some web sites have a timer for last response, and will automatically log you out from lack of activity.
