even though i have changed newtab.url to google, it will not load
when Mozilla did an update on firefox, it changed my new tabs. I dont like this and want to open a new tab with google. I have done the usual stuff to reset it back to my preferred tab but to no avail. i have done about:config/newtab/newtab.url. nothing is working please advise

With Firefox 41, browser.newtab.url no longer has effect due to it being hijacked and stuff. You can use something like Tab Mix Plus or Classic Theme Restorer to add the capability. This thread has some other options: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2964191
