Search in Search Bar Going to Wrong Place

more options

I enter a search term in the Search Bar then press Enter. Sometimes the mouse accidentally moves down over the Amazon or Bing icon and the search goes to Amazon or Bing instead of my default provider. How can I make the search go to the default search engine when I press Enter regardless of where the cursor is?

Click the search box, then move the mouse out of the way. The use keyboard.

Sorry, this is a known issue that the developers are still mulling.

If the panel drops down behind the mouse pointer and you so much as bump the mouse, Firefox figures you want it to use the highlighted thing below the pointer when you press Enter. I'm not aware of any way to instruct Firefox to ignore that mouse movement (intentional or unintentional).

If you are a keyboard oriented person, perhaps you could grow accustomed to selecting the search bar with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+k (or on Mac Cmd+k) as a workaround. (On Windows, Ctrl+e also works.)
