Why won't Firefox update to the latest Adobe Acrobat Plug-in 15.9.20069.159242?

more options

According to Firefox I need to update Adobe Acrobat Reader Plug-in, shows 15.9.20069.28170 is out of date. Following the update procedure in Firefox I am directed to the Adobe website where I install the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is 2015.009,20071. Turns out that I have this latest version already installed, confirmed when I open Acrobat Reader. My installed Acrobat Reader also confirms the latest Plug-in as 15.9.20069.159242. Tried rebooting, uninstalling Acrobat and re-installing, etc.

Firefox still shows the old plug-in that needs to be updated. Why isn't Firefox picking up the latest Plug-in for Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Hi

Looking at the additional system information you supplied with your question, you have the 15.9.20069 version of the Adobe Reader plugin installed. I recommend that you visit this official Adobe Reader site and download the latest version.

I hope this helps, but if not please come back here and we can look into a different solution for you.

This is a known issue with the update checker. If the programs web site says you are up to date, then you are fine. Don’t worry.

Separate Issue; Your System Details shows;

Installed Plug-ins

Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.1.6.156 Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 12.2
Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Mozilla's PluginCheck is incorrectly reporting that the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader version 2015.009.20071 is outdated.

If it's any consolation, here's the bug report (see Bugzilla Etiquette before commenting in bug reports): Bug 1216361 - Plugin Status inaccurate (Adobe Reader)

I brought this up in the the plugincheck page discussion forum here, so hopefully a Mozilla employee will see it and correct the problem.

Where did you find that information? The numbering seems very different from the numbering used for other versions of the plugin. Adobe isn't making it easy to keep up with their changes...

Hi jscher2000, To find the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader info, launch Acrobat, go to the top menu bar, use the following path: Help/About Adobe Plug-Ins.../Internet Access Plug-in

I have attached a screenshot image of the end result.

A page will be displayed showing all the latest info. Before doing this you can verify you have the latest version of Acrobat using the following path: Help/Check for Updates... The latest version should show: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (15.009.20071)

Hope this helps.

FYI ... I have received 2 emails from Mozilla Support asking for additional information. Don't think they are paying attention because the info they requested was already provided in the details of my original question.

Hi 5225db, I'm not sure how to stop the forum from requesting more information; maybe a moderator or admin can look into that.

The plugin you found is used by Adobe Reader itself, it's a different file from the plugin used by browsers to render PDFs. So you can ignore that odd version number.
