My Android browser is not supported by Google Play so I can't access Google Play. Where can I download a stand-a-lone installer that works and not corrupted.

The browser on my Android tablet is not supported by many sites. I want to install Firefox but the Mozilla site directs me to Google Play. That does not help as my browser is not supported by Google Play!!! I've tried downloading various installers (using my desktop and then transferring to my tablet) but have not been able to get them to install on the tablet. I have also downloaded APK files from various sites (that I believe are trustworthy) and none of the APK files work. My App Installer will not install the APKs. Now what? I'm stuck in a Catch22. Where can I get a 'known good' installer that is trustworthy?

Everyone, thanks for all your help and assistance. I was finally able to install FF on my tablet by following info I found on this website:

The info there gave me a starting point from which I was finally able to get to Google Play and from there download FF to my tablet.

Hi

I notice that you are using an older version of Android, so you may struggle to get support and be able to use various features present in later versions.

If you wish to download a version of Firefox for Android without going through the Google Play Store, I recommend you have a read of this article.

I hope this helps.

What device is it as since you have Android 2.3 it is possible you have a ARMv6 cpu and not ARMv7 or newer or even a Intel.

James,

I have a NextBook Next7P (NXM726H). According to the spec's I found on the net, the CPU is an ARM Cortex A8 1GHz (2005 vintage which supports ARMv7-A architecture.)

http://www.arm.com/products/processor.../cortex-a8.php

Here are the versions listed from my tablet.

  Android 2.3.1, Kernel 2.6.32.27,
  Build 2.0.27.Gingerbread.eng.root.20111206.152602_HW:2.0.0.0.0

See attached spec sheet snapshot

Seburo,

I went to the Mozilla Aurora site as you posted and downloaded the file (fennec-45.0a2.multi.android-arm.apk). When I try to install the package I get the same response as always: "Could not open ... fennec-45.0a2.multi.android-arm.apk as APK file". I then try to use the APK installer application I have and it immediately shows it is "Installed" eventhough I know that is false. When I select it to be installed, I get a pop-up window asking me to complete the action using: a) Package Installer (Android icon) or b) Verify and install (Google Tool icon). Regardless of which I select, I again get the same response I have always received: "Parse error: There is a problem parsing the package."

I am open to hearing any other suggestions you (or anyone) has so I can get Firefox installed. Or at this point, any browser that is currently supported by websites.

Thanks.

Have you tried rebooting the device, or even taking the battery out when its still on, sometimes helps
