An additional Deleted box has appeared. How do I get rid of the one I do not want? What is the green icon on each 'Deleted' box?
I had a problem with items being deleted from the Deleted box when I had not actually initiated the delete (see previous question). At some point an additional Deleted box appeared as a folder in the list containing the Draft, Sent folders etc. as a sub-folder under Inbox. I would like to delete this folder and use the other one which appears at the bottom of the list and in which items I have deleted (using the Delete button on the Message screen) appear. How do I do it? Why do both Deleted boxes have a green icon? What does the green icon mean?

I don't think I've seen a green icon. Could you provide a screenshot of it? It may cast some light on the provenance of your spare Deleted folder.
Mine are generally tiny wastebins with a recycle logo, but it can vary between desktop styles and Thunderbird themes.
You are correct and they are waste bins with a recycle logo but they were so small I couldn't tell what they were. It sounds as if they are what you have so how do I get rid of the waste bin I do not want and which in fact is empty. Any normal Deletes appear to use the waste bin not associated with the Inbox
First please look at your Account Settings > Server Settings and check what it says against 'When I delete a message ... '. I guess you have ticked the option 'Move it to this folder ... ' and the folder that you have specified there is the one where your deleted items currently go. And that's the folder you want to continue to use, right? Next please check if this is an IMAP account. If it is, right click on the account in the list of folders and select 'Subscribe'. A window should open up showing a list of folders on the server, with a tick beside those you are subscribed to. I suspect that the Deleted folder in this list may be subscribed? If so, remove the tick mark, refresh the list to make sure that you are no longer subscribed to that folder, close and restart Thunderbird. Has the folder disappeared? If not, can you delete it now?
