I recently switched to Thunderbird for my local email account on my desktop computer. The account is set up as an IMAP account for Charter.net port 143 no ssl or tls per charter setup instructions. Outgoing mail Smtp port 25 no SSL or TLS. All of my inbox and sent mail populated fine but will not update with new mails without either shutting down and starting back up or going offline and back on??

I have tried restarting in safe mode and with add on's disabled same result. I have tried deleting my profile and recreating it same result. Settings are for instant notification when emails arrive, check for new messages every 5 minutes, check for new messages at startup.

Not sure what else to try as I needed to get away from unsupported Windows Live Mail???

Do yourself a favor and find a new email provider which supports TLS.

There was a similar problem with GoDaddy a while ago which did affect many people, and GoDaddy were simply denying there was a problem at all. In the end they silently fixed it, whatever the problem was.

GoDaddy reference fyi: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1260724#c10

There have been a lot of complaints in this forum recently from people using Charter about the very same problem. You'll need to talk to Charter. Tell them you're not the only one with the problem.

Moon, Have you resolved this charter.net+Thunderbird problem??

I finally found a solution, had to go back to Windows Live Mail and set up Charter.net with old pop 3 settings which are not supposed to work but are working fine no issues. If you search for charter pop 3 server settings you can find them or if need be I can post them here.

Thanks
