When I log into Thunderbird it ask for my password...when I send an e-mail it again asks me for my password. Why do I have to enter my password when I send e-mails?

Your provider has 2 sets of servers. One for inbound and one for outbound. Thunderbird only asks for a password when a server wants one. Check the box to remember the password if you object to doing it yourself.

I don't want it to remember my password. I have never set it up to remember it. When I first started using t-bird it would only ask for my password when I started t-bird. It never used to ask for my password when I sent an e-mail...now it does.

As stated when your providers server requests a password thunderbird relays the message.

Do you know when this requirement started ? It wasn't that way over the previous years I have used T-bird.

I am not exactly sure when it started, but would guess that is was around June of this year (2016). You are right, I have been using Thunderbird for about 4 years now and it never used to ask me for my password to send emails
