My logo image only appears as the 'alternative text' in my signature in Thunderbird Shredder Ver 3.0.5

I followed the instructions at this site to make a signature email including an image but somehow it will not show my logo image - just a broken link. How do I save my logo as an html file that is not in Word (apparently that is a problem)? I have it saved on my computer as a png file and it appears as a thumbnail when I 'attach an image' in Thunderbird, but how do I get a url address for it (to be put in 'Link') when setting up the Image Properties? Is that the likely problem? How do I create HTML text to represent the image in my Account Settings?

Use the Insert|Image dialogue to select your picture; that will find its URL, as such. Make sure you tick the "Attach this image as a file" checkbox.

Thanks but the reply doesn't help - as I said 'I followed the instructions at this site' as in the instructions ON THE PAGE you directed me to. I have done it over and over again from scratch. My logo always appears as a broken link. I have added my text signature info choosing font and text colour into a blank email , I have inserted the image which is a png, the file is on my computer not in Thunderbird, the logo thumbnail appears in the bottom corner of the Image Properties. I have ticked Attach image, , I have indicated the Custom Dimensions and ticked the Constrain box, I have added Alternative text. On clicking OK, the email window shows a broken link with the Alternative txt, and, if I've added other info it appears as pale grey text. The only thing I have differently each time is the 'Link' section in the Image Properties window (doesn't seem to matter what I do here)- What link is necessary when the logo png is a file on my computer? I might be doing something wrong but that's where you come in - please think about what part is the problem.

Did you follow the section "Signatures stored in files"? And use the file browser under Insert|Image to select your picture? And then use File|Save As and select HTML, and then use that HTML file as your signature? That's what works for me. My company signature has a table and 4 separate images, plus text, mailto: and tel: links.

HTML signatures in Account Settings are hard work. You need to be very conversant with HTML. You probably need to know about the file:// protocol to embed your image, and URL encoding to deal with awkward characters in its pathname.

If I was to use the form in Account Settings for a signature, I'd create the HTML in Thunderbird, save it as an HTML file, then copy-and paste the relevant file contents into that signature window.

Since I use multiple different signatures, all my signatures are in HTML files and chosen via the Signature Switch add-on at point of use.

The option to add a link allows you to attach an URL to an image, so that someone who clicks on the image will be taken to the address in the URL. So a company logo could have a link to the company's website. The link has no bearing on the visibility of the image itself.

Woo hoo! Well. . .at least I got it to work as far as the logo actually showing up as the inserted image within the Thunderbird file before I saved it. Once saved as a file I opened the Account settings and chose that file for the work email and chose ok, went back to Thunderbird and opened a new email for that email address and .........broken image again, greyed text etc. etc. So I started again - and now I can't get the logo to appear :<. I'm ready to give up. It's like there's a glitch in the program, or m,y computer, or my head!

Hi - just letting you know. This morning I just did EXACTLY the same as I was doing last night. The logo appeared in the Thunderbird email with the text. After saving the File I closed the email (no prompt to Save or Not Save - just like before - so I thought it wouldn't work). BUT, BEFORE choosing the email form, after attaching the newly created signature in Account settings, I CLOSED Thunderbird altogether. Re-opened it, then chose to write with the signatured" email address - IT WORKED - All in place with black text in the style I chose and where I had put everything. Thankyou for helping out - now I just have to do it all over again for two more different address...................
