After upgrading from Firefox x86 to 64 (and uninstalling 32-bit Firefox per the upgrade instructions) Windows lost the setting that Firefox was my default gif image viewer. Just so there's no confusion, the OS was Win7x64 before and after switching from 32-bit to 64-bit Firefox. If I try to use right click and Open with command, Firefox isn't one of the available programs. I can use the Open with ->choose default program command, browse to firefox.exe, select it and click Open but then I'm taken back to the lists of Recommended and Other Programs and Firefox isn't added to either list. Using the Start menu/Default Programs gets the same results. I can still open gif images from within Firefox using File/Open File so I know Firefox's ability to open and view gif images is still there. Thanks for any help.

I'm having the same problem, except with PNG files. (I haven't tried with GIFs yet.) Used to be (with Firefox32) that I'd double-click on a locally saved PNG and a new tab would open in Firefox to show it. Now I get "Choose the program you want to use", with Firefox missing from both "Recommended" and "Other". I click "Browse", find firefox.exe and select it, but the main dialog refuses to accept that as my answer.
