Just installed Thunderbird and it is very slow to work (win10)

I have brand new computer with Windows 10 installed, and I have been using Thunderbird for years and love the program. Unfortunately, the newest Thunderbird download is running VERY slow on my computer, and seems to be getting slower by the day. Any Ideas??

I have a similar problem on windows 7 - seems to have started with 45.4.0
