Unable to receive email in Thunderbird from Hotmail account.
Last Saturday morning on Nov. 19th I downloaded to Thunderbird from my Hotmail account then later that day I went to get messages and received the following message:
Sending of password for user annoyacat@hotmail.com did not succeed. Mail server pop-mail.outlook.com responded: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password. I made no changes to Thunderbird's settings or my password. I checked my saved passwords in Thunderbird and they were correct. I have no problem sending out email from annoyacat@hotmail.com but I cannot receive or download the emails.
The account settings are:
email address: annoyacat@hotmail.com
Server Type Pop Mail Server
Server Name; Pop-mail.outlook.com
UserName: annoyacat@hotmail.com
Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings: Outlook.com (Microsoft) - smtp-mail.outlook.com

To Paul McKeown: Your post lacked information, and did not resolve my issue. I still cannot download email from my hotmail.com account into Thunderbird. Uninstalling the account and re-adding did not resolve the issue.
There are currently about 14 threads about the issue on this forum, caused by Microsoft not allowing logins for @hotmail.com addresses, although it should have been resolved by now. Did you use the search?
Please see this question for the workaround.
