BIG problem with "restart with add ons disabled"

more options

I did a restart with add-ons disabled. After a restart the add ons were disabled, well actually they were all gone! Is that what firefox means when they say add ons will be disabled? and all my book marks were gone After a clean restart, upon which all my add ons are suppossed to be restored I had no add ons I had no bookmarks I had no passwords I had no tabs or menu bar my theme is now a gray on gray which makes it hard to differentiate items, and my icons for bookmark menu bar are gone. I need to recover my bookmarks, and my addons

has firefox been hacked?, I hardly think this is normal behavoir. It is going to take me an hour or so to get everything back to normal, if that is even possible.. How can I prevent this from happenning again?

Hi KenMacd, what you described is not normal.

When you select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled" Firefox should start up with a small dialog offering the options of "Start in Safe Mode" and "Refresh". If you selected Refresh, then it's normal for your add-ons and customizations to be removed, but you still should retain your bookmarks and saved passwords.

If a Refresh happened, Firefox should have moved your entire old profile (settings) folder to the desktop inside an Old Firefox Data folder. Can you find that? If so, you have a number of options for restoring your Firefox settings.

(1) Selectively restore some key data

You can manually copy important files from your old profile folder (like bookmarks and saved passwords) to your new one. The following support article lists the key files: Recovering important data from an old profile.

However, this approach isn't ideal for recovering add-ons.

(2) Completely "roll back" the refresh

There isn't any one-step way to do this, it involves copying ALL of your old data files from your old profile folder to your new one. Good news: complete data. Bad news: whatever was causing issues with your Firefox before is likely to be back. Still, it could be easier overall.

The full details on those steps are in another recent thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1145726#answer-933024
