I was making a new sub folder in a folder within Trash to move some emails into. I touched something and the Sub-Folder disappeared. How can I re-capture?

I was making a new sub folder in a folder within Trash to move some emails into (Distribution of Stock in example below). I touched something and the Sub-Folder (Joe in the example below) disappeared (including the other two sub sub folders). How can I re-capture the sub folder (Joe) with its contents & Subs? Trash 

       Joe
            Sale of 1010 Home Property
            Purchase of 123 Home Street
            Distribution of Stock

Why on earth would you want to file messages under Trash? Trash is for stuff you don't expect to need to look at again. If you want to keep something, file it in a regular folder.
