Prevent "View Image" from opening in a new tab
So I have looked this up several times and not found an answer anywhere. And I've just been dealing with the issue, but there has to be a way to turn off this feature, and I want to know where it is.
The situation is this; Let's say I am doing an google search for images. I find an image I like and I click on it. A box opens up giving me 3 options; "Visit Page", "View Image", and "Share". What I would like to do it "View Image" so I click the button and it opens in a new tab. What I would like it to do is open in the same tab. Not open a new one. Does anyone have a solution for this?

This is actually coded into those buttons on Google's image results page. They have target="_blank" on the links, which triggers a new window/tab (depending on whether you divert new windows to new tabs).
I think you have two options:
(1) Drag and drop the link onto the address bar to replace the results page with the linked page.
(2) Use an add-on to override the built-in behavior. For example, you can use a userscript I posted, which you apply to pages using the Greasemonkey extension:
- Greasemonkey: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/
- Userscript to strip off the target attribute (only installs after Greasemonkey is activated): https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/17459-google-images-un-target-to-open-in-same-tab
That did work for me. Thanks!
If I could make a suggestion I would propose to Mozilla to make that a user definable option. When you deal with a lot of images, the target="_blank" opens up A LOT of extra windows.
