How many mailing lists can I have - cannot seem to add a new one unless added to the Personal Address Book. Already have five other lists
Top line addresses shows: All Address Books (with a Blue Book), beneath this is Personal Address Book (with a Blue Book), then one entitled CMS&S Club (with a Blue Book) and a sub list denoted by two "people", then a another address book CM Vision (with a Blue Book) and a sub list denoted by two "people", and a couple more mailing lists after this each with a blue book and a sub list. At the bottom is a blue book saying Collected Addresses. I want to set up another mailing list but when I right click on All Address Books and select New List, although a dialogue box opens to set up a new list the top box on this only allows me to ADD to an existing list and the others are shown in a drop down list.
Does this mean I can have only five mailing list with a blue book? And that any new mailing lists have to be added to one of these? If not, then how can I add a new blue book and sub list? For now I have added the new list CM Village Hall to the Personal Address Book, but wanted it separate with its own Blue Book, like the rest.

The blue books are address books. The so-called "sub lists" are Mailing Lists.
A Mailing List can only exist within an address book. It is a subset of its parent address book. I know of no practical limits on either the number of address books or Mailing Lists.
The point of a Mailing List ("sub list") is that you can use its name as a stand-in for all the Contacts it contains.
An address book is an organisational convenience; most of us might use one for personal contacts, and another for business. I'd use a Mailing List for a periodic message such as a club newsletter, using Bcc to preserve my correspondents' privacy. (Actually, I'd probably build a separate address book for that club, and use a Mailing List comprising all the members for ease in addressing the periodic newsletter.)
Thunderbird restricts you to "approximately 60" discrete addressees when creating a message. A Mailing List lets you circumvent this limit.

Thanks for that. After a bit more investigation I have now solved my problem - didn't look far enough down the list of options available. Used File / New / Address Book and there it is, a nice Blue Book into which I can add people. All OK now.
