Hi,

I installed Firefox Nightly (56.0a1 (2017-07-22) (64-bit)) and enabled sync for bookmarks and passwords. Bookmarks were synced correctly, but not the passwords.

I can see a the file logins.json in my profile folder, with the logins content. But if I go to Preferences->Security->Saved Logins the list is empty. Also, logins form field are not auto filled.

None content was imported manually. Nightly somehow synced and downloaded the logins.json, but apparently it's not using it.

I already did this exact same process (reinstall in new machine + sync) without any problem, except for this time/version. May it be a bug?

I already tried some forum solutions: connect/reconnect account; delete signedInUser.json; restarting; etc. Everytime the logins.json is correctly fetched from the web with the content, or the bookmarks are synced correctly, but Nightly apparently is not 'using' the contents of this file.

Thank you,

Mario

I managed to find the source of the error: it appears to be an issue with Nightly not dealing/importing correctly the profile from previous Stable versions.

Actions like removing the logins file, logout/in, restart, profile clear, etc... did not work. Even if the credentials file are completely deleted they are downloaded again from the web (correctly) but Nightly does not make proper use of it.

The solution was to: - Completely remove ~/.mozilla folder. - Don't open Firefox Stable; - Install and first open Nightly (so the profile is created by Nightly) - Use sync.

When everything start from Nightly and on, it works; but not when Stable is also creating/using the profile.

Completely removing logins.json and key3.db did not work, so the bug must be in some other profile file.

I would consider this as an bug, because usually you have Firefox Stable already bundled into systems, which you would open to download Nightly for the first time. Somehow profile files are not being correctly migrated from Stable to Nightly.

Best regards,

Mario

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Are you using any password add-ons/programs?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Did you try to copy logins.json and key3.db from a working profile and Firefox version to the profile that the Nightly build uses?

Hi,

- I am not using any addons in Firefox (nor was in the past).

- I did not try to manually copy from the working version because I don't have it anymore (I reinstalled the PC). Since I repeated this sync in new computer many times, I was not expecting it to fail this time.

- I do have a logins.json and key3.db with the content, that were fetched from Sync servers, so apparently the data is there. If I delete the files and login again in Sync, they are re-created and I can see my logins info inside it.

- Nightly keeps logging out of Sync; every new reboot it asks for a new sign in.

- The bookmarks were synced fine. The passwords content was fetched from the server; but they don't appear in the 'saved passwords' list in the Preferences menu. Doesn't it appears like a bug?

Thanks
