When I am in Firefox, I am getting a pop up box with the following link:

http://170773056.win is requesting your username and password. The site says: “FIREFOX_CRITICAL_ERROR_0xKB2474396_CALL_HELP_DESK: +1 (855) 451-4405 (Toll-Free)”

While the pop up box is up, there is a recorded message telling me that my credit card information, etc., is now in jeopardy on Firefox due to a massive virus. HELP! WHAT IS GOING ON?? Please advise as soon as possible. Thank you.

被選擇的解決方法

If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins or scanning for malware then such a message is likely a scam and you should NEVER respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.

  • only update Firefox via "Help -> About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla server and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
  • plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.

I think that's an ad for a tech support scam. It probably launched itself from a website you were visiting. The problem is that when Firefox recovers from being shut down abnormally (i.e., crashing) it will bring back your open windows and tabs.

Many of these dialogs can be dismissed with the Esc key. Sometimes pressing the key many times quickly will help.

Other times, you may spot a checkbox on the popup that you do not want to see more dialogs from this site. Check that box before closing the dialog. Here's a link to an image from last year with that kind of checkbox: https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/uploads/images/2017-07-18-23-20-59-db997a.png
