I can no longer use the Pinterest "Pin it" function from any website. How can I fix this please?
Hi there :) I have done extensive troubleshooting for this issue but nothing Mozilla has suggested has worked. I have followed every troubleshooting step from your support pages including refreshing firefox, reinstalling firefox, removing (deleting) all preferences and addons, and testing in safemode. The same problem exists no matter where I try to use the "pin it" function so this is not a problem occurring with one specific website. At first I thought it may have been an issue with the Pinterest browser app but that doesn't seem to be the case (as I did test that first).
1. When I try to pin an image from a website, another tab should pop up showing the image and the pinterest board settings. This no longer happens. The tab still pops up but it is now a black tab with no text and no pinterest settings. I even tried reinstalling java because I thought it may have been an issue with Java as the extension ends in .js. But nope, that didn't work either.
2. I read in another post that using the browser console for output when trying to perform the "pin" it function might help so I have added that data below. It wouldn't let me attach as a notepad document.
Please let me know if you need further information.
Thanks

Hi there. I just wanted to let you know that Pinterest contacted me after I emailed them about this issue. Turns out it was something on their end that was causing this to happen and they apologised and said the issue was now fixed. So it definitely wasn't related to Firefox :) Thanks for all your help.

Thank you for the console info and sharing your Firefox data. Are you using the PinIt bookmarklet ("PinIt" button on your Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu), or the PinIt extension ("fancy P" button on your main toolbar or on the application menu with the large icons)?
When I look on the Pinterest site now (https://about.pinterest.com/en/browser-button), I don't see the bookmarklet, so it's possible that isn't being kept up-to-date.
These could be the problem. I'm not sure what's triggering them, but the host site has set CSP (Content Security Policy) rules instructing Firefox not to run certain scripts on the site:
Content Security Policy: Ignoring “https://nz.pinterest.com” within script-src: ‘strict-dynamic’ specified (unknown)
Content Security Policy: Ignoring “https://*.pinterest.com” within script-src: ‘strict-dynamic’ specified (unknown)
Content Security Policy: Ignoring “https://*.pinimg.com” within script-src: ‘strict-dynamic’ specified (unknown)
But if the problem occurs on every site, those might not be the most relevant errors.
Hi there! Thanks for your fast response. I just reinstalled the Pinterest button from here Where do the CSP rules originate? Is that something that I have set up in the browser or on my computer because I haven't made any changes to my computer settings and I've reinstalled the browser twice to default settings. The errors continue to appear when I try to pin an image. Look forward to your reply :)

CSP rules are set by websites. They are intended to protect visitors against alien scripts. Of course, when you're the one trying to inject the alien script, that ends up being frustrating. You could set Firefox to ignore CSP as a test and see what happens. Here's how:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste csp and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the security.csp.enable preference to switch the value from true to false -- I suggest re-enabling it before accessing any sites where you enter or view sensitive information
To clarify - when I mentioned "it's the same on any site" I meant that I cannot pin images from anywhere, even when not using the Pin It browser extension (so using the website's native social media sharing buttons). I will test what you've suggested and see how it goes, thanks again.
Hi there again. I altered the configuration setting you suggested to "false" instead of "true" but it made no difference. I also tested trying to post to Twitter as well using the same method and I'm getting errors there too. This would indicate to me that it's not specific to the application or website (tumblr or twitter) but I'm not entirely sure.
Other than the PinIt extension and the disabled F-Secure extension, do you have any other extensions? In particular, extensions that might have anti-tracking features? Just wondering whether something like that might be affecting social sharing buttons.
You can view, disable, and often configure and remove extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that looks as though it might block any website content? Try its More link or Options button, or if in doubt, disable it to test.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox before the change takes effect. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?
Hi there. I have actually completely removed every extension other than the Pinterest addon because I thought it might be some setting in another extension causing the issue. The same thing occurs with only the Pinterest button installed. I have also tested Firefox in "safe mode" which disables every extension but I still can't save images to Pinterest. Any other advice?
Hi there. Just wanted to add that I have been unable to replicate the issue in Google Chrome so it's looking more and more like this is definitely a Firefox related issue. I prefer to use Firefox and I don't want to have to use a different browser so I hope we can fix this :(

Thank you so much for updating that. I wish we had been able to spot the specific issue so you could have been a little more insistent with them.
No worries at all, I work in tech support myself so I know how it is when you're trying to fix something and you finally resolve it :) Thanks again for all your help!
Whatever Pinterest "fixed" for Darkside Creative, it's still not working for me. I don't have pop-ups blocked in my options and the only extension I've added is the Pinterest button. I tried the CSP thing mentioned above and changing it to false did not make a difference. I cannot pin anything, whether I use the Pinterest button (which I have uninstalled and reinstalled a dizzying number of times trying to fix this) or just the Save icon in the upper left of images I encounter on the web. It doesn't matter what site I'm on, either. Initially it was just Facebook I couldn't pin from, but the problem now seems to extend to all sites. When I try to pin, there's a momentary flicker, like a pop-up window was trying to open, but couldn't. If I use the Save icon in the upper left of images, sometimes I get the same flicker and sometimes I get a page that invites me to pick an image to pin, but am not offered the list of boards to save it to, so when I do pick a thumbnail, it simply reverts to the original image page without letting me save the pin to whichever board I want.
This is incredibly frustrating, and unlike Darkside Creative, when I contacted Pinterest to report the issue, I get the usual bullshit suggestions, like "clear your cache or try another browser." Well, I know I can pin just fine from Chrome; I could pin from Firefox before the grand change-over, but not now. I don't like being followed all over the web by Chrome, so I'd like to continue with Firefox (even though it still locks up every now and again), but pinning stuff's a pretty basic function. I really don't want to have to go to Chrome every time I want to pin something, so if you've got any further suggestions on how to get this working, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
Hi RoseQueen. I sent a suggestion to your private mailbox so let us know if my suggestion worked for you or not?

Hi RoseQueen, do you use any ad blockers or other content blockers which might prevent the "overlay" of thumbnails from appearing in the document?
Also, be on the lookout for the shield icon indicating that the Tracking Protection feature is blocking some content in the page. More info in this article: What happened to Tracking Protection?.
Hi, jscher2000. I don't use any ad blockers, but I hadn't really thought about the Tracking Protection feature (which I had set to always block tracking), so I read up on it, then went to Pinterest and clicked the shield so I could reset it to allow Pinterest to track.
I can now use the Pinterest button to save things. Earlier, however, I had uninstalled the Pinterest button and replaced it with a Pinterest button from http://barisderin.com/?p=2596. That solved the problem, so I don't know whether making a tracking exception for pinterest.com would have fixed the problem by itself. Either way, I now know Tracking Protection causes some issues and will know how to deal with it in the future, so thank you! And Merry Christmas!
Just to add to RoseQueen's comments above, I had discovered the second time the Pinterest extension stopped working that uninstalling it and reinstalling this Pinterest extension worked and fixed the issue - here but you need to uninstall the one you have installed first. Hope this works for anyone else that is experiencing issues with the Pinterest extension not working.
