Mail marked as junk is no longer automatically going to my junk mail folder. Instead, it is displayed in my inbox. All my junk mail controls are correctly set in Settings. Adaptive learning is turned on too. This problem started recently, after I unmarked a message as junk. After marking this sender as junk again all their messages keep coming in as 'normal' mail. Now almost all my junk mail is coming in as normal and my junk status is not being respected. I;m being flooded with spam. Please Help!!!

True, but if you don't try, you'll never find out. In any case, you can backup your Thunderbird profile prior to making any changes, and restore it, if something bad happens. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

You can also try to reset your training data in Account Settings, however, that will require some training efforts afterwards. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Junk_Mail_Controls#Training_the_Junk_Mail_Controls

Thank you, but if it's not working properly that still doesn't guarantee that this will sove my problem, and might make it worse in fact.

That's a very good point. Hadn't thought about restoring a backup in the event it doesn't work out.

Before you go to the trouble of restoring, you might try disabling junk processing, restart, delete the junk folder, re-enable junk processing, start thunderbird again if necessary to let the account manager create a new junk folder.
