I lost all my history. I have a backup, but it won't stay restored.
Seems the spot to erase all history is too close to the spot to click to see the history sidebar and I accidentally erased all my history and history is something that I use constantly.
I realised that this would propagate to my other Firefox installs and quickly saved my profile folder and sure enough my history is now blank on all my machines. Of course I disabled history sync but, alas, too late.
I copied and pasted the backup places.xxx files over the ones in the active profile folder, and when Firefox starts, my history is back, but the second time Firefox starts, history is entirely blank again. Rinse and repeat.
So, I gather there is a lock or pointer of some sort that recognizes that the history I pasted is older or that the history was deleted and goes back there.
Is there a file to edit or delete to allow my history to stay alive?.

To work with History with more control Turn on the Firefox Menu Bar Mouse to page top Right Click and Click Menu Bar. More Control and room.
Or the history is corrupted.

Thanks.
The menu bar does nothing I could not already do.
The history file is not corrupted. It works just fine when pasted in and everything is there perfect, complete, and working fine after I do that and and start Firebird.
- However*, when I shut down and start the next time, the history is blank again.
Somehow, Firebird remembers that the history was deleted in the past and deletes the history again.
What I am asking is how Firebird knows that.
Where is the switch?
BTW, I don't know what corrupted my original post and repeat it here so that it is (hopefully) easier to read. --- Seems the spot to erase all history is too close to the spot to click to see the history sidebar and I accidentally erased all my history and history is something that I use constantly.

I see what you mean about the menu bar, but I see no difference.
'Show all History" and "Clear Recent History" are far too close together (same position and distance) in the menu bar as well.
It is too easy to get the opposite of what is intended.
As I say, deleting history should require verification.
Maybe I should mention I am using Quantum.
