I'm trying to set up firefox so that I can view PDFs in the browser instead of downloading them and opening them in Adobe. I understand that to do this, you're supposed to go to Options and then under applications set Portable Document Format to Preview In Firefox. However, I don't have Portable Document Format listed under Content Type. Instead, I have Adobe Acrobat Document and for this there isn't any option to Preview in Firefox.

What can I do to view PDFs in the browser?

HI see if this rattles it's cage : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 59.0.3 with a Full Version Installer

Note : need 59.0.3 for Compatibility for Win 10 version 1803 Windows Spring Update out April 30th so back up stuff you want to save to another drive update all programs. https://www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-announces-windows-10-april-2018-update Use Media Creation Tool to update, or not.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Please see the following articles:

View PDF files using Firefox’s built-in viewer
Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files
Manage file types and download actions in Firefox

If you have an add-on installed such as the one from Adobe, try disabling it. The Preview in Firefox option should be available in that case. If nothing helps, reset the actions by removing the handlers.json file as suggested in one of the articles.

Unfortunately this didn't help. I tried deleting the handlers.json file, but after I restarted Firefox it still only gives me the option to save PDFs or open them with Adobe Acrobat. I also disabled my Adobe add-on. The only thing that's seemed to change is that now neither PDF nor Adobe Document are appearing under content types under Applications. This was still the case even after I downloaded a new PDF.

Try disabling the plugin from within the Adobe software. Apparently something is very agressive in maintaining it, so your changes are being overwritten.

As for choices provided following downloading a PDF, the options should only become available if the MIME type for the PDF was specified properly by the website, which may vary. Try downloading a PDF from somewhere else.

Uninstalling and reinstalling firefox seemed to solve the problem. Thanks for the replies!
