Messages sent from my lap top appear in the sent folder on the laptop BUT not in the sent folder on my pc, and vice versa. Why?

This would happen if the account was set up as POP on both computers, but if it was set up as IMAP, the Inbox, Sent and other folders would be synchronized over all devices.
