Installing Thunderbird on Macos High Sierra 10.13.4

I have tried with much pain to install Thunderbird 52 on my MacOs High Sierra 10.13.4 but to no avail. When trying to auto detect email provider ... I get message "Looking up configuration: Email provider" with a continuous spinning half circle. Nothing happens . When attempting manually, message reads "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account.

Am I doing something wrong here. I have been trying now for 3 days and am unable to get anywhere with any one of my 3 email accounts including hotmail.

Check: In your Firewall, which might be part of your Anti-Virus product, make sure Thunderbird is setup as an allowed program.
