The new options menu does not have a composition tab. I have searched everywhere and I can't find how to make this change. Anyone else know how to make default body text?

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong options menu. I found that the recommended post was correct. No problem now.

The newest and latest update to TB is flawed, and is in need of an immediate fix. It keeps defaulting to Variable Width and Paragraph when composing an email, and it CANNOT be changed. Moziila MUST CORRECT THIS in a Patch.

To summarize, when composing a new email, it will automatically default to Paragraph instead of BODY TEXT, and it cannot be changed to keep it that way. There is NO WAY in the newly-updated TB that just came out recently to do this, and is denotes a Coding error and flaw that the Code-Writers mistakenly put in there. Please create a new patch and FIX THIS!!!!!

hi Talos4 Are you saying that in 'Options', you have unchecked the checkbox 'Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text by default'  ?

Close any opened 'Write' windows.

Confirm you have this setting in this location:

  • 'Menu icon (3 lines)' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab
  • click on 'Config editor' button

It will say to be careful :)

  • In top search type: paragraph

look for this line:

  • mail.compose.default_to_paragraph

Is the value 'True' or 'False' ?

  • If it is 'True' then double click on that line to toggle to 'False'
  • Close window - top right X
  • click on 'OK

Open a new Write window and test.

Please report back on results. What version of Thunderbird are you currently using? What OS ?
