Limit memory usage
Over time Firefox and FirefoxCP Web Content tabs will suck up more than 2 GB of RAM on my Mac. Is there a way to limit to the amount of RAM Firefox can use?
Quitting and restarting fixes the problem for a short period of time.
I have gone through a lot of config settings suggested on internet searches, none of them seam to have any effect. I don't remember all the setting I have tried.

Separate Security Issue, please update your Flash 28.0 r0 by removing it with this tool : https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html If you use it Reinstall with Flash Player Version: 30.0.0.154 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>
HI, is there a reason that you need to do a shut down ? Is it hanging Firefox or is System hanging, is machine getting hot ? How much Ram do you have ?
To be Checked and turned off unless needed for accessibility : Please : go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.
Multi-Processor Support : Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.
Only Disable as last resort.
Multi-processor Can completely disable it this way in about:config : dom.ipc.processCount set to 1 browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false
Only move to esr if low ram and old system.
Firefox Extended Release Version : Firefox ESR does not come with the latest features but it has the latest security and stability fixes.
If do please :
I am rebooting Firefox to clear out the RAM. RAM usage keeps growing till I have just a few MBs left. The machine has 16 GB and runs fine other than the Firefox RAM problem.
Then please follow the 1st 2 of the list.
Does the about:memory page gives any clues about what is using up this memory?
You can open "about:" pages via the location/address bar
- "about:" is a protocol to access special pages
The Privacy & Security and Security changes have slowed down the RAM usage a lot. I have a snapshot of the about:memory page just after Firefox was started and after it has been running for several hours.
The majority of the processes stay about the same. It is the Web Content Explicit Allocations that goes from 497 MB to 1.4 GB. I have 20 tabs open and of the 20, 9 tabs are pined. I have kept the same tabs open during the test and done limited browsing. Opening a tab with Facebook will accelerate the usage.
Is there a way to limit the Web Content Explicit Allocations?
