Closing and Re-opening TB is only way to consistently get most emails

I'm a new TB user and am trying to set it up on a new pc.

TB pulls in some emails automatically but most do not arrive. I have TB set to check for emails every 2 minutes. Clicking on 'Get Messages' does nothing. If I close and re-open TB all emails arrive just fine. I have not found any pattern as to why some are received while others are not. I've checked all the settings in TB and tried several different server settings. Also checked my Road Runner account to look for any filters but as I mentioned TB will receive the email so I don't think the issue is on the RR side.

The emails are not in a junk or spam folder in either RR or TB.

The fact that TB pulls them in just fine when I open the program implies that my settings are ok but there is something else going on.

Interestingly, I downloaded TB on my old pc to give it a test drive before actually deciding to use it instead of Outlook. Had the same issue on the old pc. I was hoping a new install would resolve the problem. Does this imply that I have a setup issue or perhaps TB and RR are not playing nicely together?

Lets start with some common sense. It really takes more than 2 minutes to actually get your mail over the majority of consumer level internet connections. Some business connections might do it in less. But it is usual to expect that sort of response from a server sitting in the room with you. So getting mail probably never ends. It starts again before that can happen.

Second you make no mention if your account is IMAP or POP. Both get mail but that is about were the similarities end. So when seeking advice it is essential information.

Finally you do not mention what mail provider you use, or version of Thunderbird. There is one US internet service provider that simply has a broken mail server. Thunderbird was modified to work around the broken server, but if you don't have a current version it will not obviously be included in your Thunderbird.

I am guessing your account is IMAP and mail is not coming to "some" folders. If that is the case right click the folder in the folder pane and select properties and select the folder to be included when new mail is sought.

Additionally "reliably get all mail" is again not very illuminating. was that mail that your provider held back because you account was POP (inbox only downloaded) and they though it spam?

Thanks for the reply.

To clarify: 1. Setup as IMAP 2. TB Version 60.3.3 3. Email Provider: Time Warner Road Runner 4. All mail is set to come to the Inbox.

By 'reliably get all mail' I mean that some emails appear in my Inbox while others only appear after closing and re-opening TB. This is even after waiting for several hours to see if they will magically appear. No emails are being held back or marked as spam. I've logged into my RR account and no emails are in the spam or junk folder. And, as I mentioned, TB does pull them in just fine when I close and re-open the program. Hope this helps to clarify. Thanks!
