Thunderbird hangs several times per day. Just upgraded to osX 10.14.2 and TBird 60.4.0. [Mac]
Thunderbird hangs several times per day. It's always when switching from back to the main window from another (e.g. compose) window. It's usually when trying to open another mail message in my inbox, and often right after sending a message. It hangs and mac gives me the spinning wheel of death. I've tried leaving it for several minutes see if it will recover, but it doesn't. In every case, I have to force-quit and restart. I haven't seemed to have lost any data in the process.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

FWIW, I use SMTP (not IMAP). This problem kicked in with the release of 60.6.1 Everything was running smoothly prior to that.

Do you mean POP? SMTP is the sending server for either POP or IMAP incoming servers.
There are many factors that can cause slow performance. Here is a list that applies to Windows and OS X:

Whoops! Sorry! Yes, I use POP mail. Slow performance isn't the problem. The problem is TB freezing.

Freezing, as in you must Kill the process and restart Thunderbird?
Yes. TB gives me a spinning beach ball, and I have to use Mac's "Force Quit" to kill TB and then restart it. BTW, I'm now using TB 60.7.2 and it's still freezing.
Wayne: Thanks for looking into this. An update since my original posting in January: This problem still occurs. I've upgraded to each new release through 60.7.2. It's been happening with every version. When it occurs, TB freezes: I've let the beach ball spin for up to an hour with no response. This is not a slow performance issue. The problem occurs right after sending an email. Based on the behavior and awareness of my local network, my guess is that upon sending an email, the hanging occurs while TB tries to contact local servers. I think one of those connections gets delayed in some way, and TB winds up in a loop. This is all pure conjecture on my part; there is no message about failed connections.
I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread, but Paul's post triggered me to add this comment: TB hangs up when: (1) I just clicked "Send" on an email. (2) The email has not finished sending. (3) I use the Macintosh app switcher to switch to another app, almost immediately after I click "Send" on the email.
The Mac app switcher is when you click on Cmd-Tab and a list of open apps appears and you select the app you want to switch to.
I don't use the app switcher, but when TB hangs, it's often (maybe always) when I switch to another app by clicking that window (even the Finder by clicking the desktop), under precisely conditions (1) and (2) described by Clinto.
If anyone is still having an issue when using Thunderbird 68, please post a new issue in the support forum. Thanks
