How can I permanently save a bookmark?
When I want to bookmark anything I click on the star in the main address bar, in the centre top of the page, and click 'Done'. This now appears at the top of 'Recently Bookmarked' section. If I then want to save it for regular access I drag it across to (what I think is) the Bookmark Menu on the right. If I then wish to delete the bookmark from the recently bookmarked list it also disappears from the Bookmark Menu. This means that I have to have a huge 'Recently Bookmarked' list in order to keep those that I return to regularly. Any bookmarks which I have previously imported, ie bank, email, FB, do not appear in the 'Recently Bookmarked' list and hence do not produce this problem. I hope I have explained the problem clearly.

'Recently Bookmarked' is not a real folder. It's just a quick way for the user to find recently made bookmarks.
You will find the 'real' bookmark in whatever folder you put it in.
'Recently Bookmarked' is a so called smart folder that shows the result of a database query, so it is not a real folder. In this case it shows a list of all bookmarks sorted by date added, so you will see items in this list as long as there are bookmarks.
Bookmarks created by clicking the star are created by default in the other Bookmarks folder.
For easier access to bookmarks, you can add an additional menu button to your toolbar:
To add that button, either:
(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar
(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?
- Click the "Library" button:
- Click "Bookmarks"
- Click "Bookmarking Tools"
- Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
Thanks for those replies. As with lots of IT related questions I have had the head slapping moment. Due to your information it is clear that if I save a bookmark to the 'Bookmark Menu' folder it is not saved in any other folder that needs cleaning up by deletion and hence is 'permanent'. It still appears in 'Recently Bookmarked' but that is something I will now ignore. I have been using the Bookmarks Menu button - star above a bar - for a long time. I should have looked at the New Bookmark panel a bit more closely. Thank you again for your time, sorry about the numptiness.
