Cannot download new emails into my inbox. Error code coming up "Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com

What 'Authentication Method' are you using in the imap mail account? 'Normal Password or OAuth2?
If Normal Password: Gmail may be deliberately blocking the account. Logon to webmail account via browser and make sure 'less secure apps' is selected.
Then restart Thunderbird.
