When pasting from excel into a new e mail it keeps excel format (text size) no matter which option I use in Thunderbird. The copy is from excel bar not the cell. When pasting as a quote it just indents the words. I ignores Thunderbird default setting which I have set as 12 It also seems to keep what ever format is pasted and repeats it in the next line.

When you copy and paste from a program like MS Word, Excel etc you are copy pasting all the css formatting as well as the actual text information and so that formatting will effect the email and bloat it.

Suggest you try using 'Edit' > 'Paste without formatting'

Hum.. ok now I must have been doing something different now it kind of works. But it you copy and paste w keep formatting any thing after the copy & paste keeps the copied format and you have to reformat font & size. Its more work but Its do able.
