When ever I try to open an email with Thunderbird the screen starts to flutter. I am running Thunderbird in Linux Mint 19.1. I have been running this OS for a while now with no issues. It`s only been doing this for a couple of weeks and only does this when I use Thunderbird. Now when I just open Thunderbird it does not flutter. But when I click on an email, it does. The only thing I can think of is, it could have started after an update, but Like I said, it only does this with Thunderbird.

open Thunderbird in 'Safe Mode' https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Do you see the same issue? If no, then it is possible one of your addons is causing a conflict.

When started in Normal mode, you would need to disable one addon and restart to see effects. Continue disabling one addon at a time to see which addon is the problem.

It could also be an installed theme. If using a different them then use a default theme to see if problem goes away.
