Scam screen offering $1000 gift card takes over NY TImes articles. The only way to avoid it is X out of the window completely. Began happening within the last couple of days and seems to be increasing in frequency. How do I get rid of this?!?

Check the add-ons list and disable any you do not recognise. Does this problem also occur in private browsing windows? (open one with ⌘⇧T)

Thus far, it only happens when reading NY Times or Washington Post articles. How do I access the add-ons list?

Type about:addons into the address bar and press enter.

There's only one and its an Adobe Acrobat that's already disabled.

You could try running a threat scan using malwarebytes to see if it turns up any unwanted software, which might be generating the ads. The other potential source would be an actual malicious ad being served by NY Times or The New York Post, which you can block using an ad blocker such as uBlock Origin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/addon/ublock-origin/ )

Thanks. I have Malwarebytes and will try that. I noticed android in the mozilla addon url. Will it work with Mac OS?

Ah, yes, I'm posting from my phone, meant to link this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/addon/ublock-origin/

Running Malwarebytes now. I'll try the mozilla addon too. Thank you again!
