Safe Finder search

more options

How do you get rid of Safe Finder? Whenever I want to search for something it always comes up with a Yahoo search, powered by Yahoo Search. Safe Finder icon is on the upper right corner. I have tried their suggested recommendations on the FAQ page. Nothing works. My default and preference search engine is Google.

This may be a three part answer:

(1) Default search setting

It sounds like this is already correct but searches are getting hijacked away from Google to a different site.

(2) Extension check

An extension can detect newly loading pages and redirect them. Steps for tracking those down in a moment.

(3) Malware sweep

Since this may have been injected by external software, you may want to try the tools listed in the support article to supplement your regular security software: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

Extension Check

You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. On the right side, find the "Manage Your Extensions" heading.

Then cast a critical eye over the list below that heading. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that mentions SafeFinder, or searching, or privacy? Anything that looks suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove). For your privacy and security, don't let mystery programs linger here.

Any improvement?
