I am running Thunderbird 68.11.0 (32-bit) and have noticed for the past couple of months that my inbox emails are disappearing. I've followed other threads regarding this issue, but none of the recommendations have fixed my issue. I have two email accounts and only the first account is having the issue. Today, all emails prior to July 28th are gone. Except for the fact that when I do a search (ctl+K) the older messages show in the listing, but then when I click on the message I am looking for it comes up blank. I have opened the INBOX file with notepad and none of the older messages are there. I cannot recall when this first happened, so I'm not sure it is tied to an update or not. Have I lost the old emails or could they be somewhere else and how can I get them back into the inbox? Has Thunderbird changed such that you must move your messages to a local folder before they are removed from the inbox (which doesn't make sense since my other email account is not having the same issue)?

Most likely it is removals synchronized from the server on an IMAP account. Often things like deleting the mail on your phone can see it removed from Thunderbird under IMAP. Other issues can include mail retrieved by another device where the device deletes the mail on the server and subsequently that is a deletio0n via synchronization.
