Thunderbird on both my Laptop and My Desktop
I've used Thunderbird on my Desktop for years as POP and want to install it on my laptop so that I can work remotely and still send/receive emails and they will be on my Desktop when I return home. When I installed Thunderbird on my laptop today it automatically installed IMAP I was able to send emails but I was not able to receive them.... and I received errors messages that my server was not an IMAP3 server. So does this mean that I have to change to a POP or was I getting that message because the two versions were not the same?

Who is your email provider and do you have IMAP access enabled for your account?
I assume pop or imap will be the same. If you are allowed to access the server from outside then you might try to change connection security (for incoming server) from "SSL/TLS" or "STARTTLS" to "None" and see if you now can receive emails.
