Ever since I started using Firefox which was months ago, I've been getting this "Hmm. We're having trouble finding that site" page multiple times a day when opening links to various websites. Refreshing the page makes it load correctly. I've tried troubleshooting this in the past but didn't spend too much effort, but enough is enough. Things I have tried:

  • Disabling all extensions
  • Disabling hardware acceleration
  • I am using the default theme so there's nothing to disable there
  • Clearing the cache
  • Checking my internet connection (I'm connected and everything else works)
  • Flushing my DNS
  • Resetting Windows, which included reinstalling Firefox (I did this to fix something else, but still)
  • Disabling IPv6 and DNS prefetching
  • I am not using a Proxy

I feel like I've tried everything. What else can I do?

Solved! For anyone who may have this problem in the future, what I did was change my IPv4 DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and my IPv6 DNS server to 2001:4860:4860::8888.

Is this with all websites/pages, some, a few?

Please provide a public link (no password) that we can check out. No Personal Information Please !

There is security software like Avast, Kaspersky, BitDefender and ESET that intercept secure connection certificates and send their own.

I've had it happen on this very website (https://support.mozilla.org), on Unity forums (https://forum.unity.com), and probably on a hundred different websites. I'm not using any security software except what comes with Windows by default (so Microsoft Defender).

I just tried removing Firefox from the list of apps that are allowed through Windows Firewall, then re-adding it with full permissions. Didn't help.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

As a test, disable your protection programs.

Safe mode didn't fix the issue. One thing I noticed though is that for a couple minutes it was working fine, but once it started happening, it happens very often. I also tried refreshing Firefox, also no luck.

You can do a malware scan just to be sure.

I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a full scan. It didn't find anything. Anyway I very recently reset Windows including wiping everything on all my drives and I've been having this issue since before that so I don't think it's malware.

Big discovery - so far I've been experiencing this problem on my desktop PC at home. Today I got a laptop, and the first thing I did with it was install Firefox - before literally anything else. The error still occurred. So this indicates that there's a problem with my internet probably. But it's not like I'm losing internet connection completely as I would have noticed that. Do you have ideas for how I could track down the issue?

Contact your ISP and ask them about it. Also, have them check your service.
