Firefox gets slower and slower to the point where typing lags behind

When I use firefox, it gets slower and slower over time to the point where it's a chore just to type. And this is on a recent MacBook pro. Everything else is fast. But Firefox gets unusable. The UI should not be a bottleneck like this.

Retarting speeds it up for a while, but then it gets slow again in a few hours.

Is there some kind of profiling I can run that I can use for filing a bug report?

Normally I would say to try Firefox in Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode. But as the issue takes several hours . . . . you will have to decide.

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Is the problem still there?

While you are in Troubleshoot(Safe) mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?
