I got the message : "The address wasn’t understood Firefox doesn’t know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (javascript) isn’t associated with any program or is not allowed in this context. You might need to install other software to open this address.". What to do ? (the same does not happen with Edge, for the same URL, in this case my personal account on the French ministry of finance...)

The problem arises since about 1 month, for the first time with the French tax system, then with various other url's. I give here the screenshot of the first occurence, with the tax system : It shows that I want to pay a tax, but that I have no registered bank account (which is not true !). It asks to indicate one, and I click on the link " + ajouter un compte bancaire" . Then I get the answer : "The address wasn’t understood. Firefox doesn’t know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (javascript) isn’t associated with any program or is not allowed in this context. You might need to install other software to open this address."

In a different context, I got the same kind of response (and problem !) with Thunderbird, when trying to open an URL from a message. Notice that my Java version is SE 17.0.4.1, my Firefox version is 104-0-2 (64bits), my Thunderbird version is 102.2.2 (64 bits). Notice I was able to open all the URL's under scrutinity using Microsoft Edge.

Finally it could be useful to know that about one month ago (on aug. 17th) , I was under attack by a hacker showing a terrific image and urging me not to restart the computer and call a french French telephone number. I did not call and restarted without damage. Yet, a few minutes after, I was called by a Frenchman, apparently calling from a number in the Massachuset ((1) 508 534 85 20 ). I neglected the call, restart the computer, uninstalled firefox and reinstallet it, without apparent damages afterward. From the history of Firefox, I got the identifier of an URL which might belong to the Hacker  : suniigle.com/ ?adgroupld=1363396162954718&ttps%20impots%20gouv%20fr&MatchType=e

Sorry to have been so long and tedious ....
