For the past week Firefox has been opening Youtube in dark when for the last decade I've been using light. Every time I change to light it works for that tab, if I open a new tab and load Youtube it opens in dark appearance. When I change to light and then click my avatar in the top right of Youtube it's still states I'm in dark when it's in light.

Why doesn't the light appearance stay? I've cleared cookies and that doesn't seem to work. It's also specific to Firefox, this doesn't happen in Microsoft Edge.

Found out the issue. A Firefox Youtube extension was causing the issue. Disabled it and it's working fine.

The extension in question is: 'Improve YouTube!' (Video & YouTube Tools).

You can check the Website Appearance setting.

  • Settings -> General -> Language and Appearance -> Website Appearance

Thanks for the reply cor-el. I've checked the setting and light is already selected.

I've noticed when I change the appearance of Youtube to light when watching a video it changes and the setting actually acknowledges the change. I can open Youtube in a second tab and the appearance is light but the setting states dark. If I open Youtube in a third tab it reverts back to dark.

It's very strange.
