How do I stop Firefox from forcing me to restart?

more options

I am using a Windows PC to run the browser. But Firefox decides that because there is some 'update' it forces me to have to restart the browser. The problem is in the new forced 2 point confirmation over passwords that creates the problems and huge delays waiting for the 'code' to be sent.

I need Firefox to stop forcing me to do this until 'I' am ready to do it and am not in the middle of work and forcing me to be delayed by this intrusive function.

HOW do I stop this from happening?

Thank you in advance.

Hmmm, this has never happened to me. Did you install Firefox from Microsoft Store?

Hi Rod, the problem is that when Firefox does a background update, any attempt to launch a new tab runs into a conflict between the old firefox.exe processes in memory and the new file on disk.

I suggest changing your Firefox update setting to inform you about new updates and let you control the install timing. That's what I do. Here's how:

Open the Settings page using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings
  • type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter to load it

In the very tiny search box at the top of the page, type updat and Firefox should filter to the "Firefox Updates" section.

Change the selector to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them".

That should take effect with the next update.
