I have been using T-bird as my email client for years. Just now, a new screen pops up with this message: "an error occurred during connection to localhost". I have 2 email accounts that I use with T-bird. The one is with comcast; it is the account that comes up with the error message. The other account is with Breezeline, and it appears to be unaffected. However, and this is the problem, I cannot send or receive email from either account. I am going to try to send both a hard copy of the error message, and the data from the T-bird program that I am using. Your help is appreciated. Thanks

Thunderbird isn't involved in any 'localhost' connections, using only the server settings provided. You might check with email provider for an update on this.

The account that I had that failed this was an IMAP account - I also have a POP version of the same account and it works fine. This happened in the past several hours and there were no changes to the account settings before this occurred. I even deleted the IMAP account after the error and attempted to reinstate it, but it consistently fails when trying to recreate it; this failure occurs with either the automated or the manual settings processes.

When the error occurs I get the same popup as the OP, and the address it says it is failing on is: https://localhost/?code=0.ac.e1.0FedrV No idea who or what is attempting to access localhost, whether it is Thunderbird or Xfinity when authorizing and/or executing, but SOMETHING is attempting it.

Like the OP I have been utilizing Thunderbird for years and this particular account was working fine until some time this morning. Rebooting and altering firewall rules had no effect.
