Frequently used sites don't recognize my computer.

Every time Microsoft updates my computer, or I shut it down and restart it, all the sites I use regularly do not recognize my computer and require me to identify myself (plus giving me messages that I am logging in from an unknown computer). What can I do to stop this?

Firefox browser isn't Windows OS. That's a OS issue.

Usually this means that the cookie the site asked Firefox to store after you last sign-in was cleared.

If this happens every time you close and reopen Firefox, it could be either:

(A) Firefox is set to only use private windows, so no history or cookies are kept between sessions

(B) Firefox is set to clear cookies when it closes (even if it keeps browsing and download history)

(C) An add-on clears cookies in Firefox from time to time

(D) External cleaning/privacy software is clearing Firefox cookies when the browser closes (for example, Advanced SystemCare could do this, possibly also CCleaner)

If it only happens when you shut down and restart Windows, I would look at (D) first. Try to set any cleaning software to ignore Firefox data.
